Poppy Field of Dreams...you won't guess what happened...!

I first met Emily & Jon properly last September on a perfect golden hour evening in a stubble field in Eydon with a combine busy doing his thing cutting the crops close by. Their warm welcomes and smiles set the tone for the start of our friendship and being able to capture some magic for them. Despite them both expressing their nerves for being in front of the camera they absolutely aced that first session!

Roll forwards to June 2022 and it was showtime! The sun was shining down on Crockwell Farm as the bride got ready in the makeup room and the groom and his team were in the farm house (one of the many great features of Crockwell!) I spent the morning flitting between both parties to capture prep, with both of them so calm and chilled!

The venue had been adorned with the most gorgeous country garden blooms curated by Clare at Hibiscus Flowers. The whimsical colourful displays were topped off with an epic flower arch around the pagoda where the couple were set to say I Do! If you are marrying by the pagoda it simply must have a flower arch!! Clare is your flower artist of dreams!

These pretty blooms then flowed through to one of the most epic cakes I have had the joy of capturing this year….yes people the flower decor on this cake had been made by Leanne at Whimsical Cakery….SHE MADE THOSE FLOWERS!! I have never seen to many guests stare at a cake for so long and I could hear everyone commenting about it throughout the day! Showstopper for sure!

So with some grey clouds starting to loom we were fortunate enough to stay dry for the ceremony down in the orchard but it meant I tapped Emily & Jon on the shoulder after confetti to suggest we might be best to jump straight into couples portraits. They jumped at the chance!

This year Crockwell planted up one of their fields with wild flower seed and it produced the most epic poppy field I have ever seen! I had messaged Emily the month before saying I hoped it would last but was maybe unlikely…..Emily explained it would mean the world to her to have shots in that field as her dear late granny worked for the British Legion so the Poppies had special meaning to her….now this is where I know Emily’s Granny was watching down on us that day. Not only did the poppies stay in bloom longer than I expected….the rain just about held off to. However an even stronger sign that she was right there with us was the fact one of Grannie's earrings had been firmly pinned into Emily’s Bouquet….her and Jon had admired it on the bouquet on the drive up to the field. As we left the field Emily sadly realised this earring had fallen off the bouquet…after a frantic search we all reflected that this sad loss of the earring was simply Granny’s way of saying 'I’m here watching' and actually a little something of mine gets to stay in the beautiful poppies. Even more so every time this pair admire their poppy field photos they will think of Granny!

The day flowed perfectly with group shots of the gorgeous girls in their soft pink gowns accessoried perfectly with their stunning florals and the boys in their check suits. Some incredibly heartfelt speeches ensued and the love between this couple was so clear to see.

The couple had also provided plenty of garden games for their guests to enjoy and as the rain cleared in the evening everyone got stuck in! Providing entertainment for your guests certainly helps guarantee some more fun candid guest shots! Along with a photo booth and a ton of props the couples guest book soon got filled with print outs of all the guests! Genius idea!

Emily & Jon I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know you both over the past couple of years and you can be sure that I will continue to follow on for the next chapter of life for you both!
